Most fast-food restaurants offer veggie burgers and vegetarian options, but Chick-fil-A has emphasized chicken.
The legendary Southern eatery is introducing its first veggie-focused sandwich, which includes a cauliflower steak.
On February 13, Chick-fil-A will test their new Cauliflower Sandwich in Denver, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Large cauliflower pieces will be offered in place of the chain's signature chicken.
Using the brand's spice, the vegetable will be marinated and breaded. It will then be pressure-cooked and served with two pickle chips on a toasted baguette.
Chick-fil-A took their first vegetarian sandwich seriously. The culinary team tested every vegetable for this prototype over a four-year period.
The chef behind the delicacy at Chicken-fil-A stated, "Our culinary team discussed and explored everything from mushrooms to beans to chopped vegetables formed into patties, but we kept coming up to the cauliflower filet."
"Cauliflower is the hero of our latest sandwich, and it was motivated by our classic Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich," menu and packaging director, said.
Vegetarians will appreciate the sandwich if it is made available statewide, but vegans would have to look elsewhere. The manufacturer clarifies that this sandwich is not vegan, but rather vegetarian.
The chain does not yet have vegetarian-only preparation areas and continues to utilize milk and eggs.
